The Cell

The Cell, 2015, AHidahl

Not all prisons are concrete and iron.
Some prisons are made of fatty acids and neural synapses.
Built not of rock;
but of pain, or terror, or conscience, or shock.

Crippling powerlessness and terror
Haunting memories of experiences
Endless shame
Never stop watching your back

... but it's all inside...

Nobody else can see it...

Nobody else can feel it...

Best to mask it so that nobody else has to.

A heavy mind builds new secrets.
A heavy past breeds a heavy mind.
Uncontrollable circumstances breed a heavy past.
Uncontrollable people breed uncontrollable circumstances.

Uncontrollable people and circumstances become the new enemy
... and they're everywhere...
... just waiting to break you down again...
... take your power...
... take your dignity...
... take your life...

Your life has taught you that you HAVE TO fight...
... but your life has taught you that you don't matter...
... so WHO do you fight?

... "them."

... "they."

You know them when you see them...
... so you suspect everybody of BEING of "them"...
... the bastards are EVERYWHERE, and they look just like everybody else...
... so who can you really trust?

... but, of course, if anybody actually heard you say it, they'd have you locked away...
"You're fucking paranoid..."
... but if they'd been where you have, they wouldn't be saying that...

You know what they're going to say,
so you just keep it to yourself;
and doom yourself to a prison cell made of memories.
