I've always been a fan of Van Gogh, Monet, Munch, and a lot of impressionist painters.
The difficulty for me, is that I cannot paint. I have never painted. If I could, I would probably do a few impressionist-style paintings. However, such is not the case.
Being, though, that I like the style, I thought it might be interesting to do my own digital take on impressionism. From that mindset came this first (of many, hopefully), that I call "Take a Hike".
My family has land up on the Continental Divide, and I've been going up there for most of my life. I try to make it up as many times as possible, because I find that I crave the crisp, fresh air; the star-freckled night sky; the constant sounds of the birds...
... and, of course, hiking.
Alongside a few friends, we decided to hike up Mount Quandary. The first couple miles were fairly steep... a very difficult beginning to the hike... but after that, it leveled out and opened into a broad meadow, reaching across the first, lower ridge.
At the end of the peaceful meadow, the trail led into what can only be described as a WALL of Aspen trees. Being late in the Summer, some of the Aspens were starting to change colors, creating an amazing spectacle of yellows and reds, spread out before us. The trail led into the aspens, almost like a doorway.
This is the impression that I was attempting to share in this work.
